Existing planters were stained a deep rich brown ; this unified the area and also helped the planters disappear, bringing the focus back on the plantings. A breakfast nook incorporated a favorite bronze of a heron our client wanted used in the design.
We built the heron into the planter and evoked a marsh setting by surrounding it with different grasses in blue and bronze tones. Tall “Karl Foerster” grasses provide a bit of privacy between the breakfast nook and the dining area where heliotrope and hardy beach roses were planted to fill the area with fragrance.
Re-arranging individual bluestone pavers and turning the straight “hallway” between the front and back of the deck into a more curving walkway further softened the space. [next]
