For this project we turned a large, relatively sparse garden into a welcoming backyard habitat. Our clients, who are avid bird lovers, wanted to encourage more species to come and visit. They also felt the garden was static and not very interesting over the seasons .

     We started by assessing the health of the existing plant material. Anything diseased or overgrown was removed. Any plant we could “recycle” was integrated into the new design. Next we worked on creating a garden habitat that would have four-season interest and take advantage of as much native plant material as possible. By using native plants we encouraged birds, insects and wildlife that are able to use the food that these plants provide . For example, shrubs like viburnum provide berries for the birds but also beautiful fall color, dogwoods add winter interest while a variety of  ornamental grasses give movement to the garden.

     Now the back garden is an area that our clients can enjoy every season. From their table on the patio they can have their dinner while they watch the birds do the same.
